| Ok here it goes...my partner and I are going to have a baby in a little over a year (if everything goes to plan) she will be carring our child. Now the BIG question is what will our child call us? We will both be the "mom" but calling us both mom or mommy wont that get confusing? we were thinking of mama kristi or mama angie but that seems long for a child to say and just by calling us by our name is not ok either we will both be this childs mom......what's your thoughts? |

Hi,
We are Mama and Mommy to our son Elias. However, he often, at almost 6 years old, calls out Mom, Mommy, or Mama, and we both answer or the one who's closer does. It is not confusing for us at all. I think that whenever a child calls for their Mom, all moms everywhere turn an ear.
I remember asking these same questions, and now they don't seem to matter much anymore. But I have to admit, in thinking of every possible question we could imagine, we were able to define our family even before we had our son. I think it helped all of our friends and extended family members as well. We always had answers when people thought they would stump us. We answered confidently and proudly, and when someone had a better idea, we listened.
Brings back memories...

We also struggled with this, and still didn't have an answer even after the baby came home. My partner had staked out "Mama" for herself, but what about me? I somehow stumbled onto "Mumu" (pronounced "MooMoo"), a sideways version of the Polish "Mamushka". Our kids are soon getting to the age when they will no longer want to use "Mumu". |

We too worried about this as so many people kept asking us what the baby will call us. She is 16 months old now and calls me Mama (not sure why and am suspecting that because she's my biological child everyone addressed me as Mama) and my partner Mommy. She says Mama in reference to me but doesn't say Mommy yet for my partner but if you ask her where Mommy is or to take something to Mommy, she definitely knows who she is. We're certainly she'll come up with lots of names for us as she grows up and we're just fine with that. |

And here it was that I thought Linda wanted to stand out in the crowd of Mama's, Mom, Mommy, Mother...who knew _________________ Kathy Bradshaw
